In 2001, 13-year-old Boy Scout Cody Clawson became lost near Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, spending over 18 hours in the wilderness.
Utilizing a survival skill learned in Scouts, he used his belt buckle to reflect sunlight, signaling passing aircraft.
Harrison Ford, piloting one of the planes, spotted Cody’s distress signal and landed to assist. Recognizing Ford’s voice, Cody was amazed to realize that Han Solo himself had come to his rescue.
Ford humorously remarked that Cody deserved a merit badge for the ordeal.
This incident highlights Ford’s commitment to volunteer search and rescue efforts in the Yellowstone area.
