ST. LOUIS — Missouri voters headed to the polls on Tuesday, April 8, for the 2025 general municipal election. From local leadership races to key ballot measures, the election will shape the future of communities across the St. Louis region.

In St. Louis, Mayor Tishaura Jones’  tenure is coming to a close after she was unseated by Ward 8 Alderwoman Cara Spencer.

Spencer’s victory Tuesday night echoed her resounding victory in the March primary, where, after a contentious campaign, she received 68% voter approval compared to 33% approval for Jones.

On Tuesday, Spencer won 64% of the vote to Jones’ 36%, according to unofficial vote totals.

After a contentious campaign, Jones faced off against Spencer, who ran first by a wide margin in the March 4 primary. Spencer and Jones, the city’s first Black female mayor, previously ran against each other in the 2021 mayoral election, during which Jones defeated Spencer with 51.68% of the vote.
