Harvey Smith with his son Robert on Warpaint
This photograph tells so many stories of a great show jumping legend, Yorkshires Harvey Smith, his horse Warpaint and his young son Robert riding out with not a care in the world.
This once in a lifetime unique photograph has been the most popular and requested I have ever put on the Golden Age of Show Jumping page. So many have asked to see it again, here it is in all its glory. An incredible, incredible recording on paper of a very special moment frozen in time.
A young Harvey Smith riding one of his great horses of the sixties, Warpaint. Here, Harvey rides with three year old Robert bareback on the Yorkshire moors overlooking Bingley, Yorkshire, Harvey’s home town. No hats, a son feeling completely secure with dad and a time when loose velvet caps where only worn in competition.
